A Grays double

By Ian Townsend

Kien Connolly and Rohat Matyar are new at Grays Athletic

Grays Athletic, like most of our clubs, didn't get to play any football at the weekend- but they did strengthen their squad with two new signings.

Striker Kien Connolly has been turning our for Great Wakering Rovers, but is also part of the Under 18 side at Barking, and played in the Third Round of the FA Youth Cup only last week, scoring against Millwall at the New Den as his side fought back from two-nil and three-one down to take the Lions to extra time before falling to eventual defeat. Last season his Barking side were crowned National Alliance U19 Youth League Division E Champions, and he was their top scorer. In senior football, he has played eight times for Rovers- mainly from the bench- scoring once, and also made an appearance, with a goal, for Buckhurst Hill.

Defender Rohat Matyar comes in on loan from Dagenham and Redbridge. He was actually part of the Daggers side which knocked Athletic's North Division rivals Basildon United out of the Essex County Cup last month, but is generally part of the youth squad.

Boss Darren Manning stated:

'Delighted to welcome these two to the club! Two great young talents who we have the chance to help improve.'
