A massive Premier Tuesday

By Ian Townsend

It’s a big, big night for Cheshunt, Horsham and Enfield Town- and by extension for Margate and Billericay

We have four matches in Pitching In Isthmian Premier this evening, and we’ll start by focusing on two that have implications at both ends of the table.

In North London, Cheshunt welcome Horsham with both sides rather desperate for victory. The hosting Ambers have only goal difference keeping them out of the bottom four, but they also have a game in hand over fourth bottom Margate, which means that victory tonight- coupled with that superior goal difference- would just about keep them up. Victory, however, might be rather difficult, as their visitors are fifth place Horsham.

The Hornets will guarantee a play off spot with just a single point, and will climb to fourth place if they can pick up three, with still a chance of grabbing a home berth in the Semi-Finals. That victory would leave sixth place Billericay Town unable to catch them, and leave the Blues with only Wingate and Finchley in their sights- the side from Summers Lane requiring only one point from their match against Carshalton Athletic on Saturday to clinch that top five spot.

Cheshunt have lost four of their last five, whilst the Hornets have become a little inconsistent of late, winning six and losing four of their last ten- but they do seem to have put that right by winning three of their last four. Horsham have won the last two encounters between the sides, and indeed four of their last six, but every victory- for both sides- has been rather narrow; indeed the highest margin of victory has been two-nil.

Third place Enfield Town will go second if they can win at Whitehawk this evening. The Towners will then face a winner-takes-all clash for second as they welcome Chatham Town on Saturday, which of course could be a rehearsal for the Final. The Towners have been in fine form, thirteen games unbeaten and looking for a sixth consecutive win, whilst the Hawks are also on their best run of the campaign, six unbeaten and having lost only two of their last ten. You might recall that when the sides met at Donkey Lane earlier this season the Hawks came from four- two down in the last five minutes to somehow snatch a draw.

Hastings United will look to climb to seventh with victory at Potters Bar Town. United have gone three without a win, whilst the Scholars have only one win- and seven defeats- from their last eight, but did beat tonight’s opponents one-nil at Pilot Field in September.

Finally, relegated Concord Rangers host Bognor Regis Town. Since relegation was confirmed the Beachboys have gone three unbeaten, whilst the Rocks are hoping to end the season on a high, and hit five at Cray on Saturday.
