A North and Trophy Saturday

By Ian Townsend

Lowestoft Town could increase their lead at the top to eight points whilst Grays are in Trophy action, whilst Felixstowe will hope to go second. It’s our Pitching In Isthmian North and FA Trophy preview

Seven games, seven wins, and Lowestoft Town may find a silver lining in their FA Trophy exit if they can defeat Tilbury and perhaps extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points- seven if third place Felixstowe & Walton United also win. The Trawler Boys have been superb, scoring an average of more than three goals a game whilst conceding only three in total. Tilbury lost their last league match against Grays Athletic, but bounced back to defeat their local rivals in the Velocity Cup in midweek. The Dockers have only two league wins this season so far.

Felixstowe & Walton United remain unbeaten in the league, and welcome a side who have lost every match- Maldon & Tiptree. The Jammers will hope to impress their new boss Adam Flint, whilst three points for the Seasiders will see them climb to second. The last time they met, in April, the Seasiders won five-one.

Bury Town could climb as high as third, but will definitely move into the top five if they can defeat East Thurrock United. The Ram Meadow faithful are yet to see their side lose a league match this season, whilst the Rocks have won only one but are unbeaten in their last three.

We expected Brentwood Town to be in and around the top five, and they will crash into the play off places if they can defeat Basildon United. The Blues have won three of their last four and are beginning to look more like last season’s Play off Finalists, whilst the Bees have won two and lost two of their last four league matches and will go into the top ten with victory.

Great Wakering Rovers put four defeats behind them with a convincing win at Maldon & Tiptree last weekend, and will hope to add another three points as Coggeshall Town come to call. The Seed Growers are still looking for their first league victory.

Into the FA Trophy, and Grays Athletic welcome Faversham Town to Parkside. Athletic saw a four game winning run come to an end when a much-changed side lost to Tilbury in the Velocity Cup in midweek, whilst the Lilywhites have had a hit and miss sort of season so far in Pitching In Isthmian South East.

Hayes & Yeading United are the hosts for New Salamis. Our North newcomers have shown some fine form this season, but will face a tough test at the Pitching In Southern Premier South promotion hopefuls, who defeated Gosport Borough in midweek.

Lincoln United, bottom of Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One East and without a league win, have been- of course- much better in the cup- and they face another side with a better cup record than league record, as our very own Wroxham make their way north. The Yachtsmen have been magnificent in the Trophy, defeating East Grinstead Town four-one an then scoring five against North Division leaders Lowestoft Town.

Potters Bar Town and Heybridge Swifts are both having fine campaigns, albeit a division apart. The Scholars, hosts for Swifts this weekend, are being kept off the top of the Pitching In Isthmian Premier only on goal difference and have two games in hand, such has been their form; whilst Swifts remain unbeaten in the North Division.

Stowmarket Town welcome Mickleover, of Pitching In Southern Premier Central. The visitors have had a mixed start to the campaign, with three wins from ten matches, whilst Stow are six games unbeaten and seem to be finding form.

Witham Town will hope to bounce back from defeat against Lowestoft Town last weekend as they welcome AFC Dunstable. Town have lost their last two matches, in League and Velocity Cup, but were in fine form prior to that. Their visitors are unbeaten in Pitching In Southern Division One Central, and defeated Thatcham Town in the last round.
