A North Thursday

By Ian Townsend

Rather unusually we have a Pitching In isthmian North fixture, as Redbridge host Grays Athletic. Here’s our preview.

Tonight is the perfect night for a trip on the Central Line, as Redbridge welcome Grays Athletic to Oakside- the second of four home games in a row for the Motormen, who won the first of those against Basildon United on Tuesday night.

The nearest station, by the way, is Barkingside- just take a tube marked Hainault and it’s a short walk. Alternatively you can take National Rail to Ilford and get as bus, but we’re not sure why you would, especially as, if you’re coming from London via Liverpool Street or the Elizabeth Line, it’s an easy change onto the Central Line at Stratford (this is what happens when you put a former railwayman in charge of your comms!) .

The Motormen start the night in fourteenth place, two places and eight points above their visitors, with both sides entirely safe from danger. The hosts are in good form, one defeat from six in the League and- of course- with the Essex Senior Cup already catching the eye in their trophy cabinet. Athletic have lost three of their last four, but the most recent of those defeats came against two members of the top five club, so perhaps hides the fact that they are in decent form and should pose a test for their hosts. By the way, that one defeat in six for the Motormen? It came against Athletic on March 16th, so tonight is a chance for revenge- or for an Athletic double.
