A pair of Rovers

John Coventry strengthens his squad, as Gelashvili and Knott arrive

New Great Wakering Rovers boss John Coventry has strengthened his squad ahead of the arrival of Barking tomorrow with the arrival of Morisi Gelashvili and Billy Knott.

Defender Morisi's most recent Isthmian experience was with Aveley, but he made only one appearance for the Millers this season, following five last season. The defender signed on at Parkside from Brightlingsea Regent in October 2020, having rejoined the Essex coast side- he'd played there previously- from East Thurrock United.

Earlier in his career he turned out for Tilbury, and for Stanway Rovers, and before arriving in the UK was a professional player in Georgia.

Midfielder Billy, from Canvey Island originally, is widely travelled, having had a youth career that spanned Concord Rangers, West Ham United and Chelsea. He then moved to the North East of England (almost as cold as Canvey in winter), where he signed for Sunderland, and whilst with the Black Cats had loan time at AFC Wimbledon, Wycombe Wanderers and Woking, before ruining the alliteration by trying Port Vale next.

It didn't work out for him at the Stadium of Light, so he moved a little further south to Bradford City, and after leaving Valley Parade played for Gillingham, Rochdale and Lincoln City.

He returned to his roots with Concord Rangers in 2018, and has also played for Chelmsford City and Bowers & Pitsea, before making two appearances for Canvey at the start of this season.
