A successful South Central Tuesday!

By Ian Townsend

Unlike our other Divisions, last night’s South Central programme wasn’t rained off- and it brought wins for South Park, Leatherhead, Vale and Thatcham- and another point for Binfield, at Uxbridge

Leatherhead defied the weather and opponents Sutton Common Rovers at Fetcham Grove last night, closing to within a point of third place Marlow and opening up an eight point gap between themselves and sixth place Westfield. The Tanners scored the only goal of the match eleven minutes minutes into the second half, Omarr Lawson doing the damage, pouncing when the ball came back off the bar from a Trevan Robinson header. The Tanners are pictured with their Under 12 side, who were the mascots for the evening.

Raynes Park Vale got back to winning ways and climbed back into the top five with a narrow- and late- win over Chipstead. It was the Chips who opened the scoring, Danyaal Iqbal scoring just before the half hour mark, but the hosts were level just before half time, Jordan Stepney with the equaliser. With a point each looking the likely outcome, a minute before the end Brad Sweeney decided otherwise, first being awarded a penalty and then picking himself up to take it. He hit the ball so hard that had the net not got in the way it would now be bouncing along Wimbledon Broadway, and it took the Chips winless streak up to eight, with a third narrow defeat in a row.

Seventh place Hartley Wintney hoped to get back to winning ways following Saturday’s heavy defeat at Uxbridge, but Thatcham Town had other ideas. After a goalless first half, the Kingfishers Jordi Ebanda- in fine scoring form recently- took his tally to five goals in his last three matches by scoring twice in fifteen minutes- fifty and sixty four to be exact- and that was that, two-nil the final score. That’s three wins in a row for the Kingfishers, who are a place and three points behind their visitors, albeit having played two games less.

South Park Reigate are ninth, the Sparks getting back to winning ways by becoming the latest side to make struggling Corinthian-Casuals miserable. The Sparks, with Casuals legend Danny Bracken in goal, quickly got over Saturday’s three-nil defeat against Thatcham Town, going ahead on twenty six minutes through Aiden Brown and adding a second eight minutes later, Sam King converting from the spot. That was that, and Casuals are rock bottom, eight points from safety.

Second bottom Binfield now have only one defeat from six, although it looked very much like they’d have a second loss as we approached the closing stages of their match at Uxbridge last night. With ten minutes remaining the Moles were two goals down, Christian Johnson and Elijah Anthony on sixty two and seventy two minutes looking to have ensured an Uxbridge victory- but then Ethan Lindo decided to take matters by the scruff of the neck. First he pulled a goal back, and then two minutes from the end he earned his side a point by scoring his fifth goal in four matches- and he didn’t enter the field until eighteen minutes from time!

Binfield are six points from safety, whilst Uxbridge are twelfth.

Tonight’s scheduled match between Guernsey and Chertsey Town has already been postponed.
