AB1 Golden Gloves Awards- August 2022

By Ian Townsend

Our first Golden Gloves awards of the season, sponsored by the fabulous folks at AB1 Goalkeeping

It’s time to recognise our best defences of August! Please note, the outcomes are all calculated on statistics in league matches.

Here we go:

Premier Division

We’re off to the Lantern Stadium, and we’re paying tribute to the mean defence of Potters Bar Town. Five league matches during August saw two clean sheets and only three goals conceded, along with four victories. The Scholars had three goalkeepers for those matches, so we’ll let the club decide where the gloves should go!

North Division

Four league matches, two clean sheets, no defeats, and only two goals conceded. August was a fine month for Heybridge Swifts- and whilst we don’t take cup results into account when handing out this prize, a cup win which came with a clean sheet also deserves a mention. Callum Chafer is the man in possession of the gloves for Swifts, and now he’s got another pair!

Congratulations Callum.

South Central Division

There were very few holes in the Moles defence during August. With three clean sheets from four games- and only one goal conceded in the other- Binfield are deservedly flying high in Pitching In Isthmian South Central. Again, we don’t take such things into account, but they also won in the FA Cup without conceding a goal, so that’s four clean sheets out of five. Chris Grace has been between the posts, and Moles fans will want to change his name to Amazing!

South East Division

Four matches, two clean sheets, two goals conceded, no defeats and ten points- August was a fine month for Ramsgate, and it’s time to honour their mean defence. Josh Bexon was the last line of that defence, and a marvellous last line he was as the Rams climbed to the upper reaches of the table.

They are amongst our promotion favourites, and they’ve shown exactly why. Congratulations to Josh, and all those who stand in front of him.

Thanks to AB1 Goalkeeping for being our sponsors. You can take a look at their magnificent products- and they don’t just sell gloves- by heading HERE.

Premier League winner and international goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will be best known for his work between the posts, particularly for Stoke City, Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth. But he also has his own company- AB1 Goalkeeping- who provide magnificent products for discerning goalkeepers everywhere- and we are lucky enough to have them as sponsors of our Golden Gloves Award. As they explain:

'AB1 Goalkeeping was the brainchild of one of the Premier League’s leading goalkeepers, Asmir Begovic. With his 15 years’ experience playing at the highest levels of top-flight international football, plus a development team with over 20 years’ experience of developing first-class goalkeeping products, we have a range of equipment to suit all levels of the game, from Grass Roots Football to the Premier League.'
