Advantage Villa

Hanworth Villa go fifth- and close the gap on their opponents

Hanworth Villa leapt back into the Pitching In Isthmian South Central top five last night, with victory over the side one place above them, Northwood.

Defeat at Leatherhead on Saturday saw the Villains displaced in fifth place by Chertsey Town, but they bounced back to score two goals in the first half as the Woods came to call.

The opener took only ten minutes, Kyen Nicholas with it- his ninth in sixteen games for the Villains. Nine minutes before the break it was two, Tom Bender with his eighth of the campaign- and although the visitors improved after the break, Luke Tingey pulling a goal back just after the hour, the hosts held out for three points- which wasn’t good news for Northwood, or for the chasing pack of Chertsey Town, Binfield, Leatherhead and South Park.

The Sparks, five points behind Villa with only two games left, look to have lost their chance, whilst the Tanners, also with two games left, have a four point gap to make up. Binfield are also four points behind Villa, both sides with three games remaining, whilst Chertsey are a point behind with two games left.

Northwood are now only three points ahead of their conquerors last night, and have played a game more- but they do have a better goal difference. The Woods may need to win one of their last two matches to guarantee a play off spot.
