Advantage Witham, as Seed Growers survival hopes hit

By Ian Townsend

It’s looking better for Witham Town as they open up an eight point gap on the bottom four, whilst elsewhere Wroxham continue their good form with victory over New Salamis

Coggeshall Town and Witham Town had met eight times since the Seed Growers elevation to our ranks in 2018- and prior to last night we were yet to see a Witham win. That statistic changed, much to the delight of the travelling faithful, when Farai Tsingano put the ball into the back of the Coggeshall net after just nine minutes- and as it turned out, that was enough to seal three crucial points for his side- who opened up an eight point gap on the bottom four as a result. We suspect Witham fan James (pictured) was delighted- but then he’s usually cheerful even in defeat!

The gap between Witham and the Seedgrowers is larger still- twelve points- and defeat leaves Coggeshall second bottom, two points behind Great Wakering Rovers in the battle to at least earn the consolation of a relegation play off. Coggeshall and bottom side Hullbridge Sports are level on nineteen points, whilst fourth bottom Tilbury have an eight point gap to make up with five games left to play.

Two of our promoted sides met on the Norfolk Broads, as beautiful Wroxham played host to north Londoners New Salamis. Wroxham were the side in better form, having lost only two of their last ten, and it showed as the Yachtsmen took victory with two early goals. Chris Skipper scored his first goal of the season on ten minutes, and eleven minutes later Jack Robinson added a second to take his tally to five. The Yachtsmen climb to eleventh, three places and three points behind their visitors.
