Grays Athletic fans will just have finished wiping away their tears after the departure of club legend Joao Carlos when they had a new new hero to welcome, with the arrival of former Maldon and Tiptree defender Lance Akins.
Lance was a critical part of the Jammers side which swept all before it during 2019-20 and looked odds-on for promotion before the pandemic hit. He made thirty three appearances that season, including in the giant-killing FA Cup victories against Wingate and Finchley, Royston Town and the eventual narrow Second Round defeat against Newport County. He also played in the FA Trophy victories over higher-division Cray Wanderers and Folkestone Invicta, and scored two goals as his side defeated local rivals Heybridge Swifts eight-one in the Velocity Trophy.
He previously played for Witham Town, Billericay Town, Tilbury and Coggeshall Town. He was announced as leaving Park Drive for Braintree Town a few weeks ago, but has obviously decided that Isthmian is best!
