Grays Athletic bring in former Jammers centre back Lance

Grays Athletic fans will just have finished wiping away their tears after the departure of club legend Joao Carlos when they had a new new hero to welcome, with the arrival of former Maldon and Tiptree defender Lance Akins.

Lance was a critical part of the Jammers side which swept all before it during 2019-20 and looked odds-on for promotion before the pandemic hit. He made thirty three appearances that season, including in the giant-killing FA Cup victories against Wingate and Finchley, Royston Town and the eventual narrow Second Round defeat against Newport County. He also played in the FA Trophy victories over higher-division Cray Wanderers and Folkestone Invicta, and scored two goals as his side defeated local rivals Heybridge Swifts eight-one in the Velocity Trophy.

He previously played for Witham Town, Billericay Town, Tilbury and Coggeshall Town. He was announced as leaving Park Drive for Braintree Town a few weeks ago, but has obviously decided that Isthmian is best!
