An FA Cup- North- Round up

By Ian Townsend

Here’s how our Pitching In Isthmian North sides got on in the Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round, with wins for Bury, Wroxham, Gorleston, Enfield, Maldon & East Thurrock United

Bury Town welcomed Biggleswade United of the Spartan South Midlands League Premier. United had already started their league campaign, drawing one-one with Stansted in midweek, and they were first onto the scoresheet midway through the first half, but Town levelled through Max Maghn and went ahead just before the break, Cemal Ramadan doing what he does best. Ten minutes from time Ramadan made quite sure of victory, adding a third.

Yaxley, who picked up only six points in Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One last season, were no match for Wroxham, the Yachtsmen thrashing home SEVEN goals without reply. Ryan Hawkins opened the scoring ten minutes before the break, a lead which Josh Hazell quickly doubled- and after the break the floodgates truly opened, Ryan Miles adding two, Josh Harvey two more, and Harley Black rounding things off with the seventh. Gorleston played their first competitive match in their new ground at Great Yarmouth, and continued the way they left off last season, hitting four goals to defeat Heacham. Jacek Zielonka put them ahead twelve minutes before half time, Henry Polock quickly added another, and although the visitors struck next- on fifty seven minutes- goals from Ryan Curtis and Sam Wooldridge made it four and saw the Greens coast through on the coast.

Ipswich Wanderers welcomed Histon, who were being relegated as Wanderers were celebrating promotion, and are now in the United Counties League. The match was abandoned early on due to a waterlogged pitch, so they’ll have to try again on Tuesday night.

Redbridge and New Salamis met in an all-Pitching In Isthmian North clash, with the two scheduled to meet again in the league at the end of next month- and now they’ll have to meet in midweek, too. Redbridge were twice ahead, through Jack Chowder and Abs Thompson, and twice Derek Asamoah drew the visitors level- the second equaliser arriving two minutes from time.

St Panteleimon of the Spartan South Midlands Premier played host to Witham Town, and the two sides will have to do it all again at Spa Road after a two-two draw. Town twice had to come from behind, an own goal and a penalty from Jeffrey Cobblah seeing them earn another shot at victory.

East Thurrock United welcomed Frenford, the visitors newly promoted to the Essex Senior League after becoming Eastern Counties League Division One South Champions last season. The Rocks got the only goal of the game after just six minutes, and Ayo Adukoya delivered it.

Shefford Town & Campton of Spartan South Midlands Premier played host to Maldon & Tiptree, the Jammers heading home with what was- in the end- a comfortable win. George Smith opened the scoring on sixty eight minutes, Sam Ayoola added a second right at the end.

Leighton Town won the Spartan South Midlands Premier title last season, losing only five matches, so the new Pitching In Southern League Division One Central side looked to pose a tricky challenge for Basildon United- and that’s how it proved, three first half goals seeing the Bees go down three-nil.

Enfield and Coggeshall Town, two sides who swapped places at the end of last season, played each other on Sunday (at Bishop’s Stortford). The Seed Growers had lost both of their opening Essex Senior League fixtures, and made it three defeats from three as Aaron Green in the first half and Sam Bantick in the second ensured the hosts sailed on.
