An FA Cup- South East- Round up

By Ian Townsend

Here’s how our Pitching In Isthmian South East sides got on in the Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round- with wins for East Grinstead Town, Erith & Belvedere, Lancing, Horndean, Merstham, Sevenoaks Town and Ashford Utd

Sittingbourne welcomed Jersey Bulls to Woodstock Park, and have another home tie in midweek, after a goalless draw. Bulls once again have to visit the Brickies despite technically being at home!

Broadbridge Heath welcomed Sheerwater to West Sussex, and fell to the only goal of the game in the early stages. It was an entertaining match despite the scoreline, and we covered it so you can read all about it here.

Pagham played host to East Grinstead Town, and they were rather generous hosts as the Wasps hit three goals in the first half. Max Walsh opened the scoring after just two minutes, and then it became the Connor Tighe show, the former Whitehawk and Burgess Hill man scoring a hat trick. The only fly in the ointment- wasp in the ointment (?)- was Michael Wilson’s late red card. Image courtesy of Tommy McMillan.

Littlehampton Town met Erith & Belvedere in an all-South-East clash on Sunday, and it was a seaside massacre for the hosts, who went down a rather incredible six-nil and will be hoping not to succumb to difficult second season syndrome. There were three goals a half for the visitors, two from Josh Ajayi and a third from Finn O’Mara leaving them comfortable at the break, two from Chris Dickson and a sixth from TQ Addy turning comfortable into a rout.

Sutton Common Rovers welcomed Burgess Hill Town to Whyteleafe, and the two will start again in Mid Sussex in midweek after a one-one draw. Hill will be disappointed with that, as they held the lead for more than an hour- Rob O’Toole with the goal- until Charlie Martin levelled right at the end.

Lancing played host to Rusthall of the SCEFL, and put the visitors to the sword (lance?) In a five-nil victory. George Taggart scored on seventeen and twenty four minutes, and after the break an own goal, Harry Heath and Andrew Briggs put the hosts out of sight.

Horndean had defeated opponents Portland Utd as recently as April 25th, and they did it again, this time increasing the margin of victory from one goal to three. Tommy Scutt opened the scoring from the spot just after the hour mark, Cade Dyer made it two, and Rudi Blankson added a third eight minutes from time.

Three Bridges hosted a local derby, Crawley Down Gatwick- who came so close to joining our ranks at the end of last season- making the short journey along the A264. The trip will have to be made in reverse in midweek, Curtis Gayler and Tressor Difika scoring for Bridges but both seeing their goals evened out in a two-two draw.

Merstham and Raynes Park Vale met in a clash of South East and South Central, and the Moatsiders came through- just! Reuben Collins gave them an early lead only for Brad Sweeney to level on nineteen minutes, but the winner arrived eight minutes from time, Michael Dixon with it.

Phoenix Sports scored a late equaliser against Eastbourne United, but then fell to an even later defeat, the visitors winning two-one. Michael Sarpong was the hosts scorer, three minutes from time.

Lingfield were the hosts for Sevenoaks Town, Oaks coasting to a comfortable three-one win. Dan Bennett got the first and third, Dan Carr the one in the middle on the stroke of half time.

Hollands & Blair hosted Ashford United, and the Nuts & Bolts eased through, first half goals from Connor Dymond and Ian Draycott putting them two up at the break, Draycott getting a third just after the hour to put the game to bed. Southall and Chichester City will get rather used to seeing each other over the coming weeks, as their South Central v South East tie will be repeated on September 9th in the FA Trophy- and it’s first blood to the All, Luke Heneghan with the only goal.
