Another chance for the Seasiders to go fourth

By Ian Townsend

Felixstowe and Walton United play their final game in hand at Witham Town tonight- whilst East Thurrock United welcome Basildon United

Felixstowe & Walton United’s promotion push was slowed in the first match of their three game week, when East Thurrock United grabbed a late equaliser. Tonight the Seasiders try again, knowing that if they can win at Witham Town they will climb to fourth place- albeit only on goal difference. With a three point gap to make up on the two sides directly above them, Grays Athletic and Heybridge Swifts, United may not be able to afford anything else than victory, as draw or defeat would put Swifts and Athletic firmly in the box seat for Saturday.

Witham are fifth from bottom but entirely safe from relegation. Will that allow them to play with freedom and do the sides in fourth and fifth a very big favour- or will they already have gone on holiday in their heads? Find out at 7.45 PM.

By the way, the two sides have already met twice this season, and neither had very positive outcomes for Town. In September Felixstowe won three-one in the Velocity Cup, and their first league meeting in December ended in an even bigger margin of victory, four-one.

Elsewhere, East Thurrock United will hope to climb back into the top ten as they welcome Basildon United to Rookery Hill. Neither side have anything but pride to play for, and both are without a win in seven matches. The last time they met, in December, they played out a one-one draw.
