Another Premier scalp for Millers- and Lancers lance the leaders

FA Trophy

Chatham Town took a break from title chasing to take on a collection of cup specialists, Cray Valley PM making the trip. The Chats had only one defeat from seven, but their visitors could boast a considerably better record, as the only side to defeat them so far this season had been Punjab United, who beat a significantly weakened Millers team in the Kent Cup- one defeat in eighteen matches. That was soon one defeat in nineteen, as the Millers slayed yet another giant- that’s three so far this season, look out Charlton Athletic! The Millers went ahead just after the hour, Denzel Gayle with the opener, and the points were sealed right at the end. First, Chats keeper Ben Bridle-Card saw red, and almost immediately Malachi Turner made it two-nil to the visitors.

Leaders Three Bridges travelled to Lancing with an eight point lead at the top and no defeats- and they left with one defeat, a seven point lead and a proper hammering at the hands of their Sussex rivals. Lancing were three up by half time, Lukas Franzen-Jones opening the scoring with his eighth of the campaign, Knory Scott adding a second soon afterwards and George Scott making it three on thirty three minutes. The next goal arrived fifteen minutes from time, Alex Laing making it four-nil and giving the visitors a bit of a wake up call. They’ll hope to quickly put this match behind them as Chatham Town arrive in the Velocity Cup in midweek.

Herne Bay climbed to second, but could manage only a goalless draw as they entertained Erith and Belvedere- indeed the only statistic of note was a yellow card for Bay’s Jack Richards five minutes from time; yes, that was the only booking.

Sixth welcomed fifth as Sevenoaks Town played host to Chichester City. The last six meetings between the sides had seen three City wins and three draws, so Oaks believed they were overdue three points- and they got them, a Rowan Liburd goal on eleven minutes turning out to be the only goal of the game. That result sent them up into third, whilst City replaced them in sixth.

Merstham welcomed cup heroes Sheppey United. The visitors were bottom of the pile at kick off despite looking much improved of late, and hoped to catch the Ites distracted by their impending cup tie. Sheppey were caught out last weekend, losing to Horndean, bounced back to defeat Lancing in midweek, but were caught out once more by the Moatsiders, who triumphed three-two. The hosts went two goals up inside of half an hour, Lorenzo Lewis and Callum Corbin giving them that advantage, but the Ites hit back just after the break, Alex Wills and Jack Marsh drawing them level. Just before the hour Lewis scored again for the hosts, and this time they held on for three points which saw them climb out of the bottom two.
