Bulls hit the summit
Victory for Jersey Bulls sees them replace Bognor at the top, Egham make it six wins in a row, Southall hit five, and Westfield are also victorious. Here’s our round up of Tuesday’s action
Unbeaten Jersey Bulls had Pitching In Isthmian South Central leaders Bognor Regis Town in their sights as they welcomed AFC Portchester, and they took only four minutes to take the lead, Sammy Henai-Karnau scoring for the sixth time this season. Lorne Bickley made it two six minutes before half time, but there was still time for Jason Prior to get a goal back before they all dropped off for a half time plate of Jersey Royals.
Twelve minutes into the second half Bickley struck again- his fourteenth goal in only fourteen matches- to make it three-one, and Bulls hit the summit as a result, a point clear.
Bognor were on the road to Cobham, determined to hold on to pole position- and they were ahead on seven minutes, Henry McDonald delivering the opener, but only held that lead for five minutes before Derick Hayford drew the hosts level- and Cobham could do even better, Charles Alexiou putting them ahead ten minutes before the break.
The Rocks levelled eleven minutes from time courtesy of Kaya Tshaka, and a late red card for Alexiou saw the hosts end with ten men- but they also picked up a point. Bognor’s long run as leaders came to an end as they slipped to second, a point behind Jersey Bulls. Cobham are eighteenth.
Ashford Town had been in fine form, and the Tangerines hoped for more of the same -and a sixth win in a row- as they welcomed Westfield. They went ahead in first half added time, Alex Paine opening the scoring, but early in the second half Field drew level, Aderi Dede- on from the bench at the break- providing the equaliser, and seven minutes from time Dede completed the turnaround. Still Field weren’t finished, and Kameron English made it three-one deep in added time- and they climbed to sixth.
Binfield’s evening against visitors Southall got off to a rather disastrous start, with a red card for keeper CJ Fubler after only two minutes - so perhaps it wasn’t a surprise when Daniel Roberts put The All ahead twenty minutes later. Dan Hector quickly added a second, and just before the hour it was three-nil, Kickie Dzimba surely wrapping up three points. Bill Montague added number four seven minutes from time, and there was still time for Dzimba to deliver number five before the pain ended for the Moles. Southall are seventh, the Moles six points from safety.
Kingstonian, under new management, hoped to impress the newly installed Alan Dowson as they travelled to AFC Stoneham, and we suspect he was impressed when Stan Flaherty put his side ahead on seventeen minutes and again when Eddie Simon made it two seven minutes later. He may have been less happy when Kyle Tooze halved the arrears just after the half hour, as the hosts, who had lost five of their previous six, gave their fans hope. Seven minutes from time the comeback was complete, Tyrrell Sampson with the equaliser, and that was that. Kingstonian are thirteenth, Stoneham four points from safety.
Hendon were the hosts for Egham Town, and it was the Sarnies- looking for a sixth win in a row- who broke the deadlock nine minutes before the break, Connor Cullen scoring his eighth League goal of the campaign. Cullen added a second seven minutes later, and the scoring came to an end- Egham in fourth.
Hartley Wintney and Hayes and Yeading couldn’t find a first half goal, and the same could be said of the second half, too. Hayes are eleventh, The Row fifteenth.
In the Velocity Cup Second Round Erith Town hosted Windsor & Eton, and the Dockers progressed by two goals to one. All of the goals arrived in the first half, Tahjae Anderson scoring a fourth minute opener, Morgan Elliott levelling just before the half hour, and Bethel Gboda scoring what proved to be the winner seven minutes from half time.
