Moles overcome Yellas to climb closer to safety

Binfield's improving form continues as they are too strong for Ascot United
Binfield remain second bottom of Pitching In Isthmian South Central despite their victory over Ascot United last night, but the five point margin between the Moles and safety is beginning to feel much smaller- particularly given that they have two, three or even four games in hand over the sides above them.
Last night's match at The Iconic Stadium was a tale of three penalties- two of them for the hosts, the other for the visitors. The opening goal, however, was not from the spot, Amari Fashanu continuing his fine form by scoring his seventh goal of the season, this one arriving after only six minutes.
Our first spot kick arrived on eighteen minutes, and it allowed Fashanu to make it two-nil, but six minutes before the break the visitors were back in it courtesy of a spot kick of their own, Lucias Vine sending the keeper the wrong way from the spot to halve the deficit. That's nine goals in thirteen matches for Vine, a third of those coming from twelve yards.
Fourteen minutes from time the hosts got the clinching goal, and again a penalty kick was involved- but on this occasion it wasn't scored, it was saved, Nathaniel ‘Natty’ Boakye seeing Mark Scott keep out his initial effort but keeping his cool to knock in the rebound. Despite the visitors best efforts, that was that- three unbeaten for the Moles, who have taken ten points from their last five matches. Their visitors have only one win from six, and sit in thirteenth- ten points ahead of their hosts having played three games more.
Many thanks go to the volunteers who worked so hard to make the pitch playable. We suspect that any actual moles in the vicinity need lifejackets at the moment.
