One hundred and twenty years old- and we don't look a day over twenty one!

We've just celebrated our birthday- where's our cake?
The Isthmian League celebrated a rather big birthday at the weekend, and it's perhaps just as well that nobody bought a cake as all of those candles would have posed a significant fire risk! March 1905 saw the inaugural meeting of the league, at which its formation was agreed, which means that we've just turned one hundred and twenty! By the way, there's no truth in the rumour that Nick Robinson took the notes…
That first meeting led to our first ever season, 1905-06, which saw the following clubs compete for the title: Casuals, Clapton, Civil Service, Ealing Association, Ilford, London Caledonians.
The title was eventually taken by London Caledonians, who didn't lift a trophy because it was agreed that such frippery wasn't necessary, honour was more than enough! They won by two points from Clapton, with Ilford finishing last- but Ilford turned the tables the following season, finishing first.
So, many happy returns to us- and don't we look good for our age?
If you're interested in the history of our league. we'd like to recommend a visit to the Isthmian Archive, which you can find HERE.
