It's Tags time, with help from Matt Napier
We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off. We’re going North, with Matt Napier representing the Tags
Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
The highlights from last season were: Beating Folkestone Invicta 2-1 at home to end their unbeaten league run while I was dressed up as Deadpool for Halloween night; 2-1 win against National League South side Hornchurch in Essex Senior Cup Quarter-Final; 2-1 win against Billericay Town away from home on 3rd January with support from Maidstone, Truro & Chelmsford fans to create an unforgettable atmosphere.
And what was the worst moment?
The two worst moments for me were our Essex Senior Cup Semi-Final shock defeat to 2 steps below Great Wakering Rovers and our relegation to Isthmian North- although this was confirmed beforehand off the pitch.
Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?
Our goalkeeper Jack Giddens got a full house of accolades. He saved us so many times in numerous games despite a MCL /meniscus injury which happened in the first game of the season. He put himself on the line and gave the team hope when we were on a poor run of performances.
Moving on to your current squad - which players do you think will make a big impact during the 26/27 campaign?
We’ve played five games so far in our pre-season and I’m impressed with Fred Buers, Jaden Crowhurst and Bilal Sayoud. I believe Freddie will be a great defender and delivers excellent crosses, Jaden has started strongly every game and controlled possession in midfield, and Bilal helped us towards the end of last season, giving us enjoyment in rough times. I hope he’ll continue his great record of goal contributions.
Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
I’ll be happy with the playoffs, minimum. If we miss out, I’ll be happy with another season in this division at our new home (Redbridge) to build our attendances up.
If you could choose a song for your side to run our to, what would it be- and why?
Alive – Empire of the Sun. It’s my song choice when I played for my inclusive club. I loved every minute playing for the team.
From all the opposition players you watched last season, which one would you love to see in your side- and why?
Sam Sene-Richardson would be the most obvious answer, he’s an all-round incredible player. I would also have loved to see Danny Ogunleye from Brentwood Town, I rated his determination and commitment to the club- and his prolific goal scoring ability.
What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?
I’m saddened to miss Lewes ground, everything about that ground & location is perfect. I’m looking forward to seeing Cambridge City this season.
If you travelled away, which ground served the best food?
Ramsgate became my new favourite. Great selection at reasonable prices.
Please predict your top five:
Felixstowe & Walton United
Cambridge City
Canvey Island
Bowers & Pitsea
AFC Sudbury
