Big wins for the Tanners and Baggies- whilst in the North, the Trawler Boys go top

By Ian Townsend

Leatherhead, Badshot Lea and Lowestoft Town were our South Central and North victors on Tuesday night- whilst Westfield triumphed in the cup at Chertsey

Badshot Lea and Leatherhead were our big winners last night- and indeed they did win big!

The Baggies, who started the day in eighth place, had been on a fine run- only one defeat from twelve across all competitions, and that on penalties- and it continued as Ashford Town came to call. After a goalless first half the Tangerines were finally squeezed after the break, Tane Caubo putting the hosts ahead six minutes after the restart, Lamin Ceesay making it four in his last five matches shortly afterwards, and Cameron Rohart-Brown adding a third right at the end. Badshot Lea are up to sixth, and have now taken twenty two points from their last twenty four.

Leatherhead had slipped off the pace a little of late, with only one win from their previous four- but the Tanners climbed back into the top five with a thumping win at Chipstead. They were started on their way with an acrobatic own goal on sixteen minutes which would have been superb had a striker scored it, and were two up ten minutes before half time, Trey Masikini with that one. Any chance of a Chips comeback was ended when Dan hector made it three with twenty one minutes left, and twelve minutes from time Alpha Diallo rounded off a fine win by adding a fourth. Leatherhead have now won five of their last six meetings with the Chips.

In the Velocity Cup, South Central leaders Chertsey Town welcomed Westfield. The Curfews had charged to the top of the table by winning their last six matches, however their visitors had also been in decent form, their previous ten matches in all competitions bringing eight wins and only two defeats. The two sides met at the end of August, and didn’t manage a goal between them- but someone had to win this one- and it turned out to be the visitors, after a late equaliser and spot kicks. Luke Robinson put Chertsey ahead after just three minutes, only for former Chertsey star Jake Baxter to immediately equalise for the visitors. Just after the half hour Oliver McCoy restored home advantage, and it looked like the Curfews were through, only for Andrew Crossley to level right at the death. Off we went to penalties, the visitors holding their nerve and triumphing five-three.

Onto Pitching In Isthmian North, and Lowestoft Town played their game in hand over leaders Felixstowe & Walton United knowing that victory over Redbridge would take them to the summit once more. The previous three matches had seen the Trawler Boys score thirteen goals whilst conceding none, and striker Jake Reed was on a red hot streak, scoring in his previous eight- and both of those runs were to continue in East London. Reed took only four minutes to put his side ahead, and their lead was doubled eight minutes before the break, Kyle Haylock making it two. Haylock again got into the act just before the hour for three-nil, although the Motormen quickly got a goal back, Jerold Cobblah doing the damage. A minute before the end Harvey Sayer got a fourth for the Trawler Boys, and although Joseph Elliot got a late consolation for Redbridge the final score was four-two, Lowestoft regaining the summit.
