Blues go fourth- whilst Wanderers hit the Motormen for four

By Ian Townsend

Brentwood Town climb, whilst Ipswich Wanderers come from behind to overwhelm Redbridge

Our North Tuesday focused particularly on Brentwood Town’s attempt to move up to fourth place by winning their game in hand at Basildon United. The Bees defeated the Blues three-two at the Arena, so were looking to do an impressive double, but had gone six matches without a win, so the visitors were undoubtedly the favourites. A goalless first half was followed by a goalless second half- that was until three minutes from time, when Town finally made a breakthrough, Daniel Ogunleye with what turned out to be the winner. Brentwood leap into fourth, and are two points behind Felixstowe and Walton United in the battle for home advantage in the Play Offs.

Redbridge looked to be ending the season in fine form. The Motormen were six unbeaten in the league as they kicked off against Ipswich Wanderers, and- of course- had an Essex Senior Cup triumph to add to that. They played their fourth home match in just over a week looking to make it four home wins in a row, and they were ahead once more after just seven minutes, Solomon Ogunwomoju breaking the deadlock with his ninth goal of the season- but Wanderers levelled just before the half hour, Rashid Salau getting the equaliser, and just after the hour they upset the form guide by adding a second and a third, scorers unknown. Deep in added time the visitors got a fourth, Teon Leggett with that one, and that unbeaten run for the hosts had crashed to an end.

Redbridge will have a rather speedy chance of revenge, as the sides meet again at the Doucy on Saturday!
