Can Kingstonian retain their 100% record? Can Worthing regain their mojo? Can Enfield Town, Folkestone Invicta or Haringey Borough reach the top?

By Ian Townsend

We’ve so many questions, and so many exciting Pitching In Isthmian Premier matches tomorrow. Here’s our preview.

Kingstonian have won every league match so far this season, and for good measure walloped in eight goals in FA Cup victory in midweek. Manager Hayden Bird will be hoping to stave off the Manager of the Month curse as they host Brightlingsea Regent, another side who have started the campaign well. Regent have only one defeat, and that against second place Enfield Town, and warmed up for this one by defeating Heybridge swifts in a midweek friendly.

The Towners are on the road, travelling to Lewes. The last time the Rooks defeated Enfield Town was back in March 2015, with three Enfield victories and four draws from the last seven fixtures between the two. The visitors come into the match unbeaten, whilst the new-look Lewes side have only one victory from five matches in all competitions so far this season.

Folkestone Invicta, in third, welcome Horsham. Only Enfield Town have managed to take anything from Invicta so far this season- and that was only a point- whilst the Hornets are beginning to find their sting, unbeaten now in four matches in all competitions. Invicta have won the last seven matches between the two.

Haringey Borough quickly put opening day defeat to Kingstonian behind them, winning every match since to start the day in fourth. They host a Corinthian-Casuals side who will be full of confidence after knocking Worthing out of the cup in midweek. Borough won the last two meetings between the clubs.

Margate, starting the day in fifth, have been great at the back but not scored very many at the other end- although perhaps put that right when scoring four at Thame United in the cup in midweek, Jake Embery getting a hat trick. The Blues host a Leatherhead side who picked up a welcome cup replay win on Tuesday, as they’d lost the previous three matches in the league. Their last three meetings- indeed five of their last eleven- have ended in a draw, with three wins for each side making up the other six.

Carshalton Athletic travel to Bognor Regis Town, as twelfth hosts sixth. Athletic are undefeated in their last four matches, winning three of them, whilst the Rocks have shown flashes of brilliance but have yet to find consistency. The Rocks won the last time they met, last October, but the last nine fixtures between the two show four wins each.

Hornchurch, who scored four in the cup in midweek, have yet to hit top gear- and Bishop’s Stortford will hope the same applies tomorrow. The Urchins also got four in their last league match, against Potters Bar Town, whilst the visiting Blues are still searching for their first league win but did wallop Lowestoft Town three-nil in the cup last Saturday. The Urchins did the double over their opponents during 2019-20, but have otherwise lost the other four of their last six meetings, including last September.

Worthing have been surprisingly up and down so far this campaign, but if there’s a time to be inconsistent it’s surely at the start of the season. The Mackerel Men have lost two and drawn one of their last three matches in all competitions, whilst visitors East Thurrock United haven’t lost since the opening day of the campaign and will hope that they are catching their hosts in a slump. The last three meetings since the sides were reunited in our Premier Division have seen one win each and a draw.

Cheshunt host Merstham. The Ambers have only lost to Enfield Town so far this season, but will want to convert draws into victories as they only have one of the latter from their first four league matches, whilst the Moatsiders have lost three of their four league matches so far but did have a morale-boosting win over Balham in the Cup on Sunday. The last time the two met was in November 2019, and the Ambers won three-nil.

Bowers and Pitsea host Wingate and Finchley. The Len Salmon is only a couple of miles away from Wingate’s destination in midweek, Basildon United- and they scored six so won’t be afraid of a return to the area! The hosts will hope for their first league win of the campaign, but had a big win in the cup last weekend- five-nil at Arlesey Town.

Cray Wanderers host Potters Bar Town on Sunday. Wands come into the game after a run of three defeats, whilst the Scholars are on an even worse run, four without victory.
