Can Stoke bounce back?

By Ian Townsend

Last weekend's hammering at Walton saw Basingstoke Town relinquish top spot. Good Friday gives them the chance to take it back.

It's very much the wrong stage of the season to discover that you have a vulnerable side, but Basingstoke Town, after a fifteen match winning run, have lost their last two. A narrow defeat against Hanworth Villa was followed by a trouncing at title rivals Walton & Hersham last weekend, a result which saw them slip to second and put the Swans firmly in the box seat. Stoke have the chance to go back to the top- if perhaps only for twenty four hours- as Southall visit on Good Friday, but the West Londoners are unlikely to be pushovers. Despite losing their last two they’ve been rather difficult to defeat this season, and haven’t yet given up on the chance of snatching a play off spot, with fifteen points still to play for and the gap only eight.

The two sides previously met as recently as February 22nd, Town triumphing by the only goal of the game.

Kick off is at 3PM.
