Can Stortford open up a gap once more?

By Ian Townsend

Herne Bay will be out to stop them and improve their survival chances, whilst Brightlingsea Regent, in similarly dire straits, welcome Horsham

Bishop’s Stortford have seen their lead at the top cut to just goal difference, with Aveley level on points- and perhaps even more ominously Hornchurch a point behind with a game in hand. The Blues, then, can’t afford any slip ups as relegation fighters Herne Bay arrive at the R&D Advisors Stadium.

With only one defeat from their last nine it isn’t as if Stortford have suddenly hot a poor run of form, which perhaps just demonstrates how good the Millers and the Urchins have been lately. Bay, in contrast, have only one win from their last seven matches and find themselves eight points from safety. If the great escape is on, they really need to start digging that tunnel! They do have games in hand over all of the sides they need to catch.

The two sides met in the FA Trophy earlier this season, Stortford winning two-one.

Brightlingsea Regent saw their manager depart after a six goal hammering at Haringey Borough on Saturday, and they are ten points from safety as they welcome Horsham to the Essex coast. Having taken two points from the last eighteen available to them, the Taydal crowd will be desperate to see a reversal of fortunes, whilst the travelling Hornets are in fine form, only one defeat from ten, and will still hope that they can play a part in the end of season lottery. The last time the Hornets travelled to Regent, in November 2021, they hammered home six goals.
