Can the Tanners hold their lead?

By Ian Townsend

Leatherhead, Raynes Park, Chertsey and Southall battle for top spot this evening- the Tanners and Curfews against each other. Here's our Pitching In Isthmian South Central preview

Leatherhead have been unbeatable in the league so far, but perhaps their Trophy exit at the hands of Westfield at the weekend might have the competition believing they are vulnerable. Amongst the competition are Chertsey Town, and the two sides meet at Fetcham Grove with top spot on offer.

A Curfews victory or a draw could leave the door open for Raynes Park Vale to return to the summit. They’ve lost their last two, but will be hopeful of getting back to winning ways as they travel to Corinthian-Casuals, who have only one win and three points from their six matches so far.

Fourth place Southall have been in fine form, and take a three match winning streak- during which they’ve scored fourteen goals- to Hanworth Villa. The Villains have had a hit and miss start to the season, but had won three in a row before departing the Cup at Premier Horsham on Saturday.

Uxbridge could climb as high as second if they can win at Met Police, but haven’t been quite at their best of late- whilst the Boys in Blue have suddenly found a defensive toughness, losing only one of their last five in all competitions- and that on penalties to Ashford United.

Marlow travel to Northwood. The visitors got back to winning ways with two late, late Dawid Rogalski goals on Saturday- that’s eleven for the season for the Marlow number nine- whilst Northwood have seen their form slip of late, and go into this match with five consecutive defeats under their belts.

Chipstead will hope to climb back into the top five by winning a green on green battle with Guernsey. The Chips got back to winning ways at Northwood on Saturday, but the Green Lions have lost their last six and picked up no points since the opening day.

South Park Reigate defeated Premier Division Hashtag United on Saturday, and will hope to take that form into tonight’s match with Sutton Common Rovers. The visitors are one point ahead of the Sparks in eighth place, but have played two matches more, and have gone four matches without a win- so will hope to put that right and perhaps lift themselves back into the top five.

Hartley Wintney and Badshot Lea are comfortably in mid table, but could climb higher- indeed to the cusp of the play off places- with victory as they meet this evening. The travelling Baggies saw a six match winning streak end with a shootout loss on Saturday.

Finally, Westfield- who knocked Leatherhead out of the Trophy at the weekend- are looking to pull clear of the bottom four as they welcome bottom side Binfield to Woking Park. The hosts have won their last four matches in all competitions, whilst the Moles have steadied the ship somewhat, drawing their last two- but remain without a league win.
