Can Uxbridge go three points clear? And we welcome back the Green Lions!

By Ian Townsend

We've seven matches in the South Central Division, including the return of Guernsey. Here's our preview.

After a season and a bit without competitive football, Guernsey return to these shores and to action as they travel to take on Sutton Common Rovers, with the match kicking off at 12 Noon. We can’t tell you anything about Guernsey’s form because there hasn’t been any, but Rovers went out of the Cup and Trophy in their last two matches- one of them against the Green Lions neighbours Jersey Bulls- but picked up their first Step Four win in their last league match and would dearly love another.

Uxbridge are currently top of the table on goal difference from Bracknell Town, but with the Robins not playing can go three points clear if they can defeat local rivals Ashford Town. The Red Army cheered seven goals last weekend at Northwood, and in Anthony Mendy have a sharpshooter on fire, with ten goals already this season. The Tangerines got back to winning ways at Westfield last weekend and would love to burst the Uxbridge bubble.

Binfield, who start the day in fourth, could close the gap on third place Marlow if they can defeat South Park. The Sparks, who haven’t played for a fortnight, got their first win of the campaign against Thatcham Town last time out; whilst the Moles were at the same time putting three past Chalfont St Peter, and have seven points- and nine goals- from their last three matches.

Basingstoke Town are still unbeaten in the league, and they welcome Chipstead. Their last couple of matches, a defeat against Wimbourne Town in the cup and a league draw against Chalfont St Peter, have seen ‘stoke show an unwillingness to hold onto a lead; whilst the Chips walloped social media darlings Hashtag United in the FA Trophy on Sunday and have been very good indeed on occasions- victory will take them above their hosts. Striker Tom Collins has nine for the Chips, whilst Basingstoke have Conor Lynch on eight.

Thatcham Town, in eleventh, welcome Chalfont St Peter. With the exception of that draw at Basingstoke the Saints haven’t had much to sing about since the opening day, when they recorded their only victory; whilst the Kingfishers also have only one league win and have taken only one point from their last twelve.

Tooting and Mitcham United picked up their first win of the season last time out, but last time out was as far back as September 14th. They host Northwood, who might wish they’d waited just as long to play given they were walloped seven-one by Uxbridge last weekend- their second defeat in a row, but both victors are in the top three, the other being Marlow.

Finally, Westfield, without a win since the opening day, host Staines Town, who got their only win of the season against…Westfield! That match was only a fortnight ago, and in between the two matches the Swans lost an eleven goal thriller against Hanwell Town by the odd goal, so are certainly on an upward curve.
