Chats lift the cup

Chatham Town finally overcame Hashtag United in the Velocity Cup Final

Chatham Town lifted the Velocity Cup at Parkside, Aveley last night- a last minute goal giving them victory over Hashtag United.

The Chats knew that they would have to be at their best to triumph- the Tags had already taken four points from them in their league encounters- and indeed it was United who edged the early stages, but Town then took the lead, a deflected effort from Jordy Robins giving them the lead just after the half hour.

It was a lead which the side in red still held at the break, but they didn’t hold it for much longer. Luke May-Parrott scored the winner against them in January’s league fixture, and he came back to haunt them once more, levelling from point blank range on fifty one minutes after Sak Hassan and Sam Cornish had done most of the hard work. Both sides pressed in the search for a winner, and it looked like we were off to penalties, but Jamie Yila had other ideas. Deep in added time, the Chats number eleven charged at the United defence, left players trailing in his wake, and found the net to give his side victory. That was Yila’s twenty second of the season, and it might be the most important.

Congrats to the Chats, commiserations to the Tags, and thanks to Velocity Sports for their continued sponsorship of our League Cup competition.
