City hit the top five- and hit the Moatsiders for three

By Ian Townsend

Merstham and Chichester City were both in good form prior to last night’s encounter- but only the visitors continued their unbeaten run

The only Pitching In Isthmian South East match to get the go ahead featured two sides with something to celebrate, hosts Merstham picking up Performance of the Month for February for their win at Ramsgate whilst visitors Chichester City had won the Golden Gloves Award. The Moatsiders were four unbeaten and had won three of them, whilst City were on a five match unbeaten run- a run which had started with a draw against the same opponents on January 30th.

For City, Jimmy Wild had been in fabulous form of late, and he made it five goals in five matches when opening the scoring midway through the first half- and the visitors, buoyed by that, soon made it two- Joe Clarke doubling their advantage only five minutes later. Could the hosts find a response? Their chances came to an end with twenty two minutes left when Wild added a third, and City held on to climb into the to five, displacing Three Bridges on goal difference.

Merstham will hope to get back to winning ways at Phoenix Sports on Saturday, whilst City host a Sussex derby against Burgess Hill Town.
