City sign former Seed Growers goal machine- and then they don't!

Nwachuku heads to Cambridge, and then leaves before arriving!

Cambridge City announced the signing of former Coggeshall Town striker Nnamdi Nwachuku from Marlow- and then this morning announced that he isn't coming after all! So now we wait to find out where he will end up!

Nnamdi had been with the South Central club for only a short while, joining them in late November after an even shorter time with National League side Welling United.

In his eight appearances for the Seed Growers this season he scored seven goals, following on from the twenty five he got last season- a campaign which saw him named in our Isthmian North Supporters Team of the Year. He has been rather less prolific at Marlow in the short time he has been there, mainly due to injury, but has made a big impression nonetheless. Marlow manager Mark Bartley explained his departure thus:

'Nnamdi has been out injured for the last couple of weeks, during which we had received an approach from Cambridge, and subsequent to the conversation Nnamdi has decided to make the move. I’d like to say that in the short time he was with us he had turned down prior approaches, some from sides at levels above us, but having received what is a very good offer from Cambridge City he goes with my blessing. He’s been a pleasure to work with and he had a big impact in the short period he was with us and I am sure he’ll go on to be a hit at Cambridge City.'

City announced his signing, but this morning have released a statement explaining that the player has had second thoughts:

'On Monday afternoon Nnamdi Nwachuku called Robbie Nightingale to say he wouldn’t be signing after all as he had been offered a better deal elsewhere.

He was due to sign up at Brentwood on Saturday even though he wasn’t fit to play. As the game was postponed it was being done this week at training.'
