Curfews are the heroes as they finally beat Bracknell!

By Ian Townsend

The Robins still have a seemingly unassailable lead, whilst we also have important wins for Uxbridge and Basingstoke Town in the chasing pack. It’s our Pitching In Isthmian South Central round up.

Finally, after seventeen successive wins, someone managed to beat Bracknell Town- and it will be a boost for the chasing pack to know that the someone in question was Chertsey Town, who go third with that victory. There was only one goal at Bottom Meadow, and it came to the Curfews six minutes from time- Ashley Lodge making the difference. Chertsey are still seventeen points behind yesterday’s hosts, but will take great heart from this performance.

Uxbridge got back to winning ways in midweek, and our third place side travelled to Ashford Town hoping to climb up to second- and achieved that goal in a tight two-one win. The Tangerines record against the top five has been awful this season- including a two-nil loss to the same opponents back in October- but they came closer this time around. Ezra Ndukuba gave the visitors an early lead, but the reliable Aaron McLeish-White equalised for the Tangerines just after the break, his fifteenth of the campaign. What proved to be the winner arrived just before the hour, and it went to Lonit Talla for the visitors.

Hanwell Town had been in magnificent form of late, and had climbed to second place by winning their last seven matches, scoring twenty six goals in the process and conceding none whatsoever. The Geordies welcomed Marlow, who proved rather more difficult opponents, going ahead after just seven minutes through Adam Richards. Tom Collins equalised on the stroke of half time but that was that, and the two sides had to be content with a point apiece. Town slip to fourth, Marlow are four points off the top five with two games in hand.

Basingstoke Town climbed back into the top five with a win over South Park in midweek, and remained there with a win at Chipstead. The Chips were chirpy after victory over Chertsey Town last time around, but despite Teo Kurtaran giving them the lead midway through the first half they lost two-one to these opponents for the second time this season. Stefan Brown equalised for Town just before the break, and Brad Wilson got the winner just after the hour.

Bedfont Sports are six points behind the top five with two games in hand, but earned three points against Westfield yesterday, For once they got an early goal rather than a late one, Ricky Wellard getting the only goal of the game after six minutes.

South Park and Binfield, both with only two wins from the last ten, made it two wins from eleven after a two-two draw at Whitehall Lane. Gavin Quintyne was very quickly into action for Sparks, scoring in the very first minute, but they were ahead for only five minutes before Callum Bunting got the equaliser. Bunting gave the Moles the lead midway through the first half, but the hosts earned a point when James Dockson equalised eleven minutes after half time.

Northwood, after a club record six away wins in a row, must have been rather disappointed to be back at home, welcoming Tooting & Mitcham United. The Terrors were tow up jst after the break, Michael Dixon giving them the lead midway through the first half and Mark Walters getting the second, but that sparked the hosts into action. Micah Jackson got one back on sixty two minutes, Keegan Cole equalised right at the death, and the Terrors saw two late red cards, Jordan Clark and Nathan Daly getting a slightly early bath. That’s Woods first home draw of the campaign.

Chalfont St Peter, third from bottom, welcomed Thatcham Town and were far too welcoming. The Kingfishers, had only one defeat in their last three, and were far too good for the Saints, getting two goals in each half to head home with a four-nil win. Simeon Weekes got their first and last goals, Alex Miller and Harvey Harry the two in between, as the visitors won each half two-nil.
