Dave Bryant R.I.P.

We mourn the loss of Enfield Town legend- and a founding father of fan-owned clubs- Dave Bryant

Enfield Town yesterday announced the passing of Dave Bryant.

Dave is an enormous part of the club's history. When the former Enfield club decided to sell their ground and leave their home town in the 1990's, he was perhaps the loudest, most passionate voice amongst a group of supporters who opposed that. Those supporters eventually formed into a committed, organised group who launched Enfield Town- the very first supporter owned club in the country, and an inspiration for many more. Dave was their very first Chair, and has been a driving force behind the success of the club over the twenty three years since its inception, also offering guidance to a large collection of clubs who decided to follow the Towners down the supporter-owned path.

His influence amongst fan owned clubs cannot be understated. Following the announcement of his passing, AFC Wimbledon stated:

'Dave helped us get our club back. He’ll be sorely missed not just by everyone connected to Enfield Town but by the footballing world. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.'

Condolences and tributes also came in from across our League, led by neighbours Wingate and Finchley, Haringey Borough and Cheshunt.

The Blues said:

'We are saddened to hear of the passing of Dave Bryant, founding Chairman of Enfield Town.

We would like to convey our condolences to his family & all at Enfield Town FC, a true gentleman of the game who was mascot at our recent 2-2 draw at the QEII Stadium.

May he rest well.'

The Ambers added:

'Sad news indeed, Dave and his contribution to local football well known to so many. All at Cheshunt FC pass on our sincere condolences to Dave’s family & friends.'

Borough stated:

'Everyone at Haringey Borough is deeply saddened to learn of this terrible news.

Sending all of our thoughts and condolences up the A10, and our deepest sympathies are with his wife, family and friends.'

Dave was recently the subject of an article in the Non League Paper celebrating his efforts, and we have included it here as an image, as we're sure that our friends at the NLP won't mind.

Everyone at the Isthmian League would like to send our love and condolences to Dave's family, friends, and of course to all at the club. We have lost a wonderful man, a true visionary, and someone who exemplified the very best of our sport.

Rest in Peace, Dave.
