Five wins from six for the play off candidates

By Ian Townsend

Only the Geordies fail to win, which gives hope to Uxbridge and Marlow. It’s our Pitching In Isthmian South Central round up.

Chertsey Town had won five of their previous six, putting themselves in pole position for a home play off spot, and the Curfews went ahead against Binfield after seventeen minutes, Jake Baxter continuing his fine season with his twenty fourth goal- and sixth in his last four matches. Didi Ndombe made it two ten minutes after the break, and the Curfews held on for a comfortable victory.

Bedfont Sports travelled to relegation-threatened Tooting & Mitcham United on the back of a five game unbeaten run during which they’d scored twenty one goals, and they scored another midway through the first half, Darryl Sanders opening the scoring from the spot. That turned out to be the only goal of the game, but it keeps Sports third, four points ahead of those just outside the top five.

Basingstoke Town scored the first goal of the three o’clock kick off’s, and it went to Conor Lynch, his twenty second of the season, as South Park were undone. The Sparks have been in fine form, but were two down on twenty minutes through Mckoy Palmer, and it was three-one at the break, as just after Sam King got one back for the visitors Lynch got another. The visitors weren’t about to give up, however, and they pulled things back to three-two when Joe Bell scored with twenty two minutes left, but the equaliser didn’t come and Stoke climb to fourth.

Chipstead and Hanwell Town couldn’t manage a goal between them, a result which sees the Geordies hold onto their fifth place only on goal difference.

Uxbridge, who started the day a point behind the top five, ended it in the same position but only outside the top five on goal difference. They welcomed crisis-hit Staines Town and went ahead, perhaps unsurprisingly, on twelve minutes- an Anthony Mendy spot kick his twenty fifth goal of the season. The Swans didn’t roll over, however, and Maciej Tajs equalised from the spot on the hour- but they were undone just before the end, Lonit Talla grabbing a critical three points for the hosts.

Marlow needed victory over Sutton Common Rovers to keep their play off hopes alive, and they went ahead after eight minutes, Marcus Mealing with the goal. Rovers also needed the points, but they were three-one down by the break, with Louis Rogers and Kameron English scoring for the hosts on thirty nine and forty one minutes, David Manu giving Rovers hope just before the break. That hope was dashed when Junaid Bell made it four on the hour mark, and Marlow are only three points behind the fifth place Geordies.

Ashford Town (Middx) welcomed Thatcham Town, the Kingfishers opening the scoring eight minutes after the restart, Joshua Davis with the goal- but the Tangerines equalised twenty minutes from time when Dan Brown found the net, and then completed the turnaround as Connor Holland got their second with eleven minutes left. Three points Tangerine was the outcome.

Chalfont St Peter travelled to Guernsey desperate for points, but they didn’t get any as the Green Lions, who are not quite out of trouble themselves, got off to a flyer, with two goals in the first half. Ben Acey got the first on eight minutes, and Will Fazakerley made it two seven minutes before the break. Micah Jackson got one back on the hour, but that was that, and the Green Lions look almost safe.

Northwood took only eleven minutes to go ahead against Westfield, Keagan Cole opening the scoring, but the visitors drew level through IK Hill, who scored from the spot with seventeen minutes remaining. That was Westfield’s thirteenth draw of the season.
