Enfield Town announce the appointment of Gavin Macpherson as their new manager

Enfield Town have been searching for a new manager since the departure of Andy Leese at the end of the campaign, and this morning they announced that Gavin Macpherson has been appointed to spearhead next season's promotion charge.

The Towners, who missed out on a play off place after seeing their form dip with the finishing line in sight, have appointed the former Metropolitan Police boss who- departed Imber Court recently after more than two decades with the club.

Gavin left the Blues last week after five seasons in charge which included two Play Off campaigns and two Surrey Senior Cup triumphs- the last of those as recently as last week, when his side defeated Virginia Water by four goals to one. You may recall that his side would ordinarily have been promoted to Step Two in 2019, winning the Southern Premier Play Off Final only to be thrust into a Super Play Off Final against Tonbridge Angels due to FA restructuring.

Prior to becoming the manager in his own right, he was a big part of Met's success in the Isthmian League as Jim Cooper's second in command. He also had a successful playing career, which included spells with the likes of Nottingham Forest, Carlisle United and Barnet.

Enfield Town Chairman Paul Reed stated:

“I’m delighted that we have reached an agreement with Gavin and his team. We had a number of impressive applicants, but Gavin was our clear favourite. His short-term and longer-term intentions as manager align closely to ours and he certainly fulfilled the criteria set out at the start of our recruitment process. He brings with him a very strong track record and considerable expertise at step three. I am very much looking forward to working with him and his coaching team.”
