Former East Grinstead Town manager Simon Funnell will be back on the touchlines of the Ryman League next season after being named as the new assistant manager at Chipstead.

Funnell, pictured, took over at the Wasps in 2011, guiding the club into Ryman South from the Sussex County League in 2014 as runners-up before leaving the GAC Stadium last November after a poor start to the last campaign.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion forward is delighted to be back in football and is looking forward to working alongside Chips manager Simon Colbran as his new number two at the High Road.

Funnell announced his return to football on Twitter over the weekend, telling his followers on the social media platform: "I'm really pleased to say I've just accepted the assistant-manager's job at Chipstead. I can't wait to get started."
