Guernsey shock Marlow- whilst Woods hit the Tangerines for six!

By Ian Townsend

We’ve wins for Northwood and Villa, a Chipstead draw at Leatherhead- but Guernsey take the headlines as they hit four at Marlow

Second place Marlow had the chance to close the gap on leaders Chertsey Town to five points as Guernsey came to call last night, but the Green Lions had other ideas, a fabulous second half show seeing them come from behind to record a four-two victory.

The hosts went ahead on sixteen minutes, Dawid Rogalski scoring his thirtieth goal of the season after a corner came his way, but the Green Lions were level two minutes later, Owen Wallbridge tapping home after Marlow keeper Aaron Watkins was unable to hold a cross. Seven minutes before half time Rogalski restored home advantage, and we expected the hosts to push on from there, but instead it was all Guernsey after the break. Within two minutes of the restart Ross Allen made it nine goals in twelve matches for the season and brought his side level, and ten minutes later the visitors were ahead for the first time, Niall Hainsworth making it three-two- his first ever Guernsey goal. With eleven minutes left Marlow’s hopes came crashing to an end, Scoring Matt Loaring making it twelve for the season and eleven in his last fourteen matches to finalise a magnificent win for the visitors, and ensure a joyous flight home.

By the way Loaring is now Guernsey’s all-time record appearance holder, last night being his three hundred and seventy ninth appearance. The Green Lions have now scored nine hundred and ninety eight competitive goals, and will be hopeful of taking that number to four figures as Southall come to call on Saturday.

Victory for Leatherhead over Chipstead would have sent the Tanners into third place, but they had to come from behind and settle for a point. The Chips went ahead after just twelve minutes, Jordy Ndozid with the opener, but the Tanners levelled on the approach to half time, Trevan Robinson heading home a Michael Elechi cross. The second half brought no further goals and not too many chances, and the outcome leaves the hosts in fourth, whilst the Chips are third from bottom, eight points clear of the bottom two- although the bottom two both have games in hand.

Northwood made it three unbeaten when they travelled to Ashford Town- and they did it in style, hitting the Tangerines for six! Lucas Sinclair takes most of the plaudits, the Woods number nine scoring FOUR of his sides goals to take his tally to seven in eight appearances. He got the opener on seventeen minutes, chipping the keeper after being assisted by Stephan Langley, and he made it two fifteen minutes later, heading home a corner. Langley got a goal of his own with twenty one minutes to go, making it three-nil, and Sinclair claimed the match ball by adding the fourth four minutes later, this one assisted by Dan Williams. Williams then got in on the act himself, making it five-nil with eight minutes left, and in added time Sinclair robbed the keeper and made it six.

You might think it couldn’t get worse for the Tangerines, but if so they decided to prove you wrong. Right at the end Alexander Sami managed to pick up not one but two yellow cards, and was sent off.

Hanworth Villa and South Park Reigate still have play off hopes, although those hopes are perhaps fading after inconsistent seasons for both sides. The Villains are fifteen points away from fifth spot- albeit with two games in hand- after winning last nights encounter with the Sparks by two goals to nil. Kyen Nicholas was the architect of their victory, a goal in each half doing the damage. He scored on nineteen and sixty nine minutes, and the Sparks had no answer to that.

The visitors remain eighth, ten points away from fifth place having played a game more than the side they are chasing, Raynes Park Vale.
