Gulls hit three and go fourth

Canvey Island are the only club to defeat the Tuesday weather, and they defeated Brightlingsea Regent, too

Canvey Island welcomed Brightlingsea Regent in Pitching In Isthmian Premier last night, and took advantage of hosting the only match to beat the weather by hoisting themselves up to fourth place, delivering a dominant display.

The Gulls took the lead on thirty four minutes, Jamie Salmon slamming home from distance, and they could have had a second before the break, Elliott Ronto heading against a post. That second goal did arrive ten minutes after the restart, Joe Paxman finishing off a pass from Evans Kouassi, and it was Kouassi himself who got the third, almost immediately- delivering his own assist for his eleventh of the season.

New signing Ashley Nzala emerged from the bench on sixty six minutes, and his side jumped four places into fourth place. Only four points separate second and eighth place in the promotion race.

Regent have now taken only four points from the last thirty three available, and haven't picked up a league victory since August Bank Holiday Monday. They remain at the bottom.
