Hartley Wintney win the first part of their Ascot double-header

Two first half goals are enough for the Row- but the Yellas have only four days to wait for the chance of revenge

Last night’s Pitching In Isthmian South Central match between Ascot United and Hartley Wintney was meant to be played in Hampshire rather than by the racecourse, but with the sides meeting again at the weekend the fixtures were flipped, as it was thought that the Yellas 3G pitch had less chance of being frozen solid last night!

Being away from home wasn’t too much of a hardship for the visitors, as their form on the road has been better than at their own Memorial Fields- and so it proved. The Row have been in good form, and made it four wins from six by wrapping up the points in the first half. The opener arrived on eleven minutes, Mason Obeng finding the bottom corner with a fine finish- and despite pressure from the hosts it was two-nil just before half time, Conor Lynch making it eight goals from eight games since his arrival. Those goals from Lynch have, with only one exception, all come in victories- and that exception wasn’t last night. No matter how they tried, the Yellas couldn’t find a way through- but they’ll get another chance on Saturday afternoon, and if their current pattern of form continues they are due a win- their previous two defeats have been immediately followed by victory.
