Higgins for the Gulls

Former Hornchurch striker Sam Higgins heads to Canvey Island

When Hornchurch recently announced the departure of striker Sam Higgins we didn't expect him to be without a club for very long, and last night he was announced as a new signing for the Urchins Pitching In Isthmian Premier rivals Canvey Island.

Higgins, who has four goals from nine appearances with the Urchins this season, has been at Bridge Avenue since the 20-21 campaign, when he made nine appearances and scored five times as the Urchins defeated seven higher-division opponents to win the FA Trophy. He added fifteen goals as his side reached the Play Off Final in 21-22, and another thirty five as they did the same again last season, when he was named in the 'Team of the Season' chosen by our managers.

Prior to his time at Hornchurch Sam played at a higher level with Chelmsford City, East Thurrock United, Concord Rangers and Bromley. He also spent a very short time with the Gulls, parachuting in on a dual registration deal to play a part in their 2017-18 Isthmian North Play Off campaign and scoring the opener in their Semi-Final win over Bowers and Pitsea.
