The Bees triumph in the battle of the promotion chasers

Basildon United, who climbed to fifth after their midweek win over New Salamis, were on top form from the off against third place Brightlingsea Regent in this clash of the promotion hopefuls, and went ahead after just three minutes, Callum Fitzer with the goal. It took until ten minutes from time for the next goal to arrive, and again it went to the hosts, Brad Warner making it two-nil. Regent got a goal back just before the end, Derek Asamoah giving them hope, but there was no time to build on that. The Bees are up to fourth, Regent slip to sixth.
