Highlights: Enfield Town 4 Whitehawk 4

By Ian Townsend

Goals galore at the QEII

Enfield Town were hoping to close the gap on leaders Hornchurch to eight points- it’s not very many if you say it quickly- but they had the stubborn resistance of Whitehawk to overcome, and indeed it turned out to be stubborn indeed. Marcus Wyllie put the Towners ahead on eleven minutes, but an own goal quickly delivered parity for the Hawks. Seven minutes before the break Sam Youngs got his fourteenth of the season, and that was quickly followed by Wyllie’s sixteenth- but the Hawks reduced the arrears just before the break, Jack Dixon bringing it back to three-two in the hosts favour.

We’d hardly kicked off the second half before Wyllie was at it again, completing his hat trick, and that looked to be that, the match entering its last five minutes with the hosts two goals ahead. Sadly for the home fans that most assuredly wasn’t that- the Hawks were awarded a spot kick, Dixon converting, and right at the death a goal from Louis Collins made it four-four. The Towners remain second, but the gap between them and Hornchurch is ten points.
