Highlights: Lowestoft Town 5 Basildon United 1

By Ian Townsend

Six points clear- and five goals- for the Trawler Boys

Leaders Lowestoft Town had been without a match for a fortnight, but it hadn't mattered too much as none of their challengers had been able to take advantage. The Trawler Boys went into their match against fourth place Basildon United with a three point advantage, and having played two matches fewer than the three sides chasing them- including the Bees.

Town had a seven match winning streak under their belts- and indeed had won nine of their last ten- and they broke the deadlock on seventeen minutes, Adam Hipperson with the opening goal. The advantage was doubled twenty minutes later, Harvey Sawyer from the spot, and it was three-nil by half time, Sam Johnson up from the back to score his fifth of the campaign. The Bees finally stung seven minutes into the second half, Samir Ali reducing arrears, but they weren’t reduced for long, Jake Reed adding a fourth for the hosts almost immediately and taking his season tally to nineteen. The fifth arrived fourteen minutes from time, Hipperson with his second of the afternoon, and at that point the goals stopped, but the Trawler Boys had increased their lead to six points.
