How many 100%-ers will remain?

By Ian Townsend

Enfield Town, Hornchurch, Lewes, Chatham Town and Billericay Town have had perfect starts. Will they be knocked off their pedestals this afternoon?

Our leaders, Enfield Town, head to face a Folkestone Invicta side who could be forgiven for being slightly in shock after losing late on to Chatham Town in midweek. Invicta started the season with a fine victory over another set of North Londoners, Wingate & Finchley, but the Towners have scored five goals without reply and will be confident- although they haven’t defeated the Stripes in their last six meetings.

Second place Hornchurch welcome Carshalton Athletic to Bridge Avenue. The Urchins hammered Margate in midweek whilst the Robins played their part in a six goal thriller at Bognor, losing a two-one lead before hitting back to take a late point. The Robins haven’t beaten the Urchins in six attempts, but the two sides did draw both of last seasons meetings.

Lewes were occasionally sublime in defeating Kingstonian in midweek, and they’ll hope for more of the same as they travel to face a Potters Bar Town side who are still looking for a first point and a first goal. Last season both meetings went the way of the hosts, the previous season both were won by the visitors.

Chatham Town also head to North London, where they take on Cheshunt. The Ambers have taken one point from their first two matches, whilst the Chats have so far brought their title winning form from last season into the new campaign. This will be the first meeting between the sides in eight years.

Cray Wanderers haven’t had the start to the campaign they’d have hoped for, losing both of their fixtures, but they’ll hope to put that right as Billericay Town come to call. The Blues have two one-nil wins under their belts so far. The last time the sides met, Wands won a seven goal thriller, but they don’t have the best of records against the Blues, winning only two of their last ten meetings.

Dulwich Hamlet and Hastings United take unbeaten records into their meeting, but Hamlet have two more points as United have delivered two draws. Home fans will be fairly positive about their sides form so far, whilst United fans were a little divided about how they felt about their sides inability to defeat nine man Whitehawk in midweek. With a former Hamlet manager and a few former Hamlet players, there should be a warm welcome for the visitors.

Hashtag United take their unbeaten record- including that fine midweek win at Concord Rangers- to the seaside once more, as they travel to Bognor Regis Town. The Rocks played some fine football and will be disappointed not to have defeated Carshalton Athletic in midweek, but will hope to take their first win of the campaign. We think this is the first ever meeting of the two sides.

Horsham got back to winning ways with an impressive win on the road at Cray Wanderers in midweek, and will hope to build on that at Haringey Borough. Borough have managed to turn a lead into defeat in both of their matches so far, but they have only lost one of their last four meetings against the Hornets.

Canvey Island, defeated against Dulwich in midweek, will hope to get back to winning ways as they travel to face third bottom Kingstonian; whilst the K’s will be hoping to pick up their first points of the campaign. The Gulls won both of their meetings last season, three-nil and four-one.

Margate will hope to put that midweek hammering at Hornchurch behind them as they head to Canvey to take on Concord Rangers, who haven’t yet picked up a point and have conceded seven goals in their first two matches since relegation from National League South.

Wingate & Finchley won at Haringey Borough in midweek with the last kick of the game, so will be buoyant as they head to Brighton to take on Whitehawk. The Hawks, as previously mentioned, picked up their first point of the campaign with nine men in midweek, so they’ll hope for three with eleven against the Blues.
