It’s Cup Final- and South Central- Tuesday

We’ve reached the Final of the Reposs Isthmian Women’s Cup, and this evening Billericay Town take on Ashford United for the chance to pick up some silverware. The match is to be played at the Len Salmon, home of Bowers and Pitsea.

The Blues reached the Final of this competition last season, only to lose on penalties after a thrilling encounter against Charlton Athletic. They sit in tenth place in the WNL Southern Premier Division, and have found themselves on a bit of a losing streak of late, but are entirely safe from relegation so perhaps they are more focused on winning this final!

To reach this stage Billericay recorded a two-nil win over Haringey Borough and then defeated Dulwich Hamlet in the Semi-Final, coming from behind to triumph three-one.

United are members of the London & South East Regional Women’s Division Premier Division, where they sit in eighth place. Rather like their opponents they aren’t in the best of form, coming into this one on the back of four consecutive defeats, and are four points clear of the danger zone- however Enfield Town, who occupy the second bottom slot, have played four matches fewer. To reach this stage they defeated Sittingbourne and Bognor Regis Town.

Kick off is at 7.30 PM.

We also have a match in Pitching In Isthmian South Central this evening (7.45), and it might turn out to be important at the bottom end of the table. Badshot Lea, who are firmly and comfortably in mid table, welcome second bottom Binfield in a match crucial for the travelling Moles.

The two sides have played fewer matches than anyone else in the Division, and both have two midweek games this week as a consequence, the Baggies facing Leatherhead and the Moles Northwood on Thursday night. Our visitors this evening start the day seven points from safety, albeit with four games in hand, and will be buoyed by their five-nil hammering of the side they are attempting to catch, Chipstead, on Saturday.

The sides have already met twice this season, and those matches haven’t ended well for tonight’s visitors. First, in the Velocity Cup way back in August, the Baggies triumphed six-nil. Next, in the league, they won three-nil at the Iconic Stadium in October, all of the goals coming in the last nine minutes of the match.

A win for Badshot Lea would take them into the top ten, but with three wins and three defeats from their last six, you can never be sure what you are going to get! Saturday’s Binfield win was their first in six matches.
