Grays Athletic last week announced the loss of supporter James Chisnell, and the club went on to pay an emotional tribute to him as they defeated Stowmarket Town on Saturday, as well as producing a tribute video, which we have included below.
James has been Athletic's club drummer for a number of years, a position which he held despite several health challenges. He was awarded our 'Supporter of the Year' honour at the end of the 21-22 campaign in recognition of his commitment to the club, and we have no doubt that, if you've ever watched Grays play as either a home or away supporter, you'll most definitely have heard him.
Following news of his passing, club captain Michael Finneran- on behalf of the players- paid the following tribute:
'Where do I start… James, Chizzy… big dog… what a bloke.
Myself and the players are absolutely shocked and devastated, a top top man taken so young. He lived and breathed Grays Athletic FC (oh and Aron Gordon!) his support never went unnoticed, and regardless of the result he always had our backs and made that known.
He certainly loved a cheesy sing along on the coach and used to say “skipper cmon get the tunes going!” OK Chizzy what do you want… “Country Road- John Denver!” OK mate let’s play that again for the 5th time in a row!
He was an extremely proud blue and would light up any room. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.'
The condolences of all at the League go out to the family and friends of James, and to all at the club. He enhanced the entire Athletic experience, and will be an enormous loss.
