K’s and Ambers have to settle for a point- on a night when both really needed three

By Ian Townsend

We had a Premier relegation battle, and a late leveller saw Kingstonian take a point from Cheshunt

Kingstonian welcomed Cheshunt in a relegation battle which looked critical to both sides chances of survival, but ended up in a draw that will disappoint both sets of supporters.

We suspect the travelling fans will be most disappointed this morning, not least because they were ahead with ten minutes to go. The Ambers dominated the first half, hot the side netting and forced saves from Daniel Cruz Domenech in the K’s goal, and finally took the lead six minutes before the break. Alfie Pendlebury provided the assist, and Nnamdi Nwachuku did what he’s been doing best for years, putting the ball into the back of the net.

That was Nwachuku’s thirteenth of the season, and it looked like being unlucky for the hosts, despite a much improved performance in the second half. Freddie Price shot wide ins earch for an equaliser, Eddie Dsane’s free kick went over the bar, and the same player couldn’t finish after an error from Woody Williamson in the Ambers goal- but finally, and with only ten minutes on the clock, a K’s break saw Price steam forward, put in a cross which Williamson could only parry to Dsane, and finally the home fans were rewarded with something to celebrate.

There were chances at both ends in the closing stages but the scoring ended there, and both sides had to be happy with a point- although we suspect that neither really was. The K’s find themselves seven points from safety and are still propping up the rest despite only one defeat in four. The Ambers are only one point from safety with a game in hand, but have now played four games more than the side one place and three points behind them, Concord Rangers.

Kingstonian welcome play off chasing Dulwich Hamlet to Imperial Fields on Saturday- whilst the Ambers are also at home, and look to have a much easier task against the side two places- and nine points- above them, Folkestone Invicta. Fifth bottom Margate welcome play off chasing Horsham, whilst Concord Rangers are at home to Bognor Regis Town.

The K’s haven’t defeated the Ambers in seven attempts.
