Margate start a manager search

Reece Prestedge departs Hartsdown Park

Margate yesterday announced the departure of manager Reece Prestedge.

Reece was a midfielder with the Blues, joining the club for the 2019-20 season, moving to Hartsdown Park from Welling United. He previously worked with then-manager Jay Saunders at Maidstone United, and also played for Bromley, East Thurrock United, Cheshunt and Bishop's Stortford, amongst others, and when he decided to retire as a player in 2021 he remained at the club as a coach.

He took the top job, initially on a temporary basis, after the departure of Andy Drury last Christmas. He was then appointed permanently to the role at the start of February, and steered his side to become Kent Senior Cup winners in May.

The club explained:

'Despite a positive start to the season, recent results, combined with our current league position has led us to this outcome.

Ben Greenhalgh and Elliott Leveson will take charge of the team on Tuesday for the Velocity Trophy fixture against Whitehawk as the search begins for a new manager.'
