Moles go fifth, as Sparks comeback thwarted

Advantage Binfield in the race for fifth place

Pitching In Isthmian South Central looks, on first glance, to have around seven clubs all competing for fifth place- and last night Binfield gave themselves a slight advantage and eased themselves into the play off places with victory over South Park Reigate.

The Moles, with two wins and a draw from their previous four, seem to be finding form once more at just the right time. They opened the score last night on twenty seven minutes, Connor Holland with the first goal, and were two up seven minutes after the restart when another Conor, Lynch, got his ninth in thirteen matches. On the hour if was three, and looked to be game over, George Winsner with a third, a fabulous free kick- but then, suddenly, the visitors awoke. Finlay Johnson reduced the arrears with fifteen minutes to go, and seven minutes later added another. Could they? They couldn’t. Lynch had the last word, making it four-two five minutes from time- and a minute later the comeback was definitely over as Tom Drinkwater saw red for the visitors.

Binfield have a one point advantage over sixth place Hanworth Villa, but have played a game more. Chertsey Town are a point further back, Southall now have six points to make up, the Sparks seven points, whilst the gap to Westfield and Chipstead is now eight points.

The Moles host fourth place Northwood on Saturday.
