Monday Night Football

By Ian Townsend

Two big matches in Pitching In Isthmian Premier tonight- and both on 3G, so we should have little chance of a postponement! Aveley and Carshalton Athletic the hosts, Hastings United and Lewes the visitors

After half of Saturday's Premier football got away from us, it's nice to have two matches tonight which we expect- unless we have some properly freak weather- to go ahead. They are both important, too.

Four points separate sixth place Aveley and tenth place Hastings United- but the Pilot Field side have three games in hand over the Millers. Aveley fell to narrow defeat against Cray Wanderers at Parkside on Saturday, whilst United were frustrated that after they put in superhuman efforts to get their game against Enfield Town played the referee decided that the pitch wasn't safe. United are in fine form, only one defeat from their last nine matches- and that against the leaders, Hornchurch. The Millers, conversely, have struggled lately with only two wins form their last ten matches. When the two sides met on the opening day, the Millers triumphed, two-one.

Carshalton Athletic know that victory over Lewes will take them into the top five, but they will have to be at their best as the Rooks have won five of their last six and have promotion pretensions of their own, three points behind the Robins with a game in hand. When the two met back in August the Rooks triumphed two-nil, but that scoreline didn't do justice to the dominance of the hosts. The Robins are much improved since then, and have only one defeat from their last nine.

Lewes have won the last three meetings between the sides, after previously failing to defeat their South London opponents in nine attempts.
