More excitement on FA Cup Tuesday

By Ian Townsend

Wins for one of the Ashfords, Hythe Town, South Park and Northwood on a night of tension and excitement

Ashford United went ahead just before the break in their replay with Chatham Town, Jay May with his first goal of the season, and forty five minutes later it looked as if that goal had seen the Nuts and Bolts safely through- only for the SCEFL side to pop up with a late, late equaliser. Extra time brought no further goals, and the penalty shootout saw the sides match each other right until the end, the visitors running out winners in front of four hundred and seventy two spectators who will be tired this morning.

The other Ashford, Town, also headed into extra time, albeit with a different outcome. The Tangerines took an early lead at Knaphill through Perry Coles, only to see their hosts draw level in the very last minute. Two minutes into the additional thirty saw Dan Brown get what proved to be the winner, as his side managed to hold out this time around.

Northwood headed to Burnham, undefeated in the Combined Counties Premier North, after another one-one draw on Saturday. Burnham are now defeated in the FA Cup, however, as the Woods made it three games unbeaten with a fine performance in front of goal. Shakeel Morris started things off in the seventeenth minute with his third of the season, Declan Nche doubled their advantage four minutes later, and two more in the second half made sure- Ismael Ehui and Ezekiel Williams got those. Burnham did get a consolation three minutes from time, but that was all it was.

Three Bridges hosted South Park after a six goal thriller saw them end level on Saturday. The Sparks went two-nil up in that match so won't have been entirely confident until about the fiftieth minute last night, given the fiftieth minute was when they got a fourth goal.

Adam Aziz opened the scoring for the visitors on twelve minutes only for Brannon O'Neill to equalise four minutes later- but South Park immediately hit back with two more, Melford Simpson on twenty minutes and Leon Lalor-Dell on twenty two. That two goal cushion was retained on this occasion, and then became a three goal advantage when Lalor-Dell got another five minutes after the break. O'Neill made it two-four with a penalty right at the end, but this time there was to be no famous comeback. That's three goals in three for O'Neill.

Westfield and Hythe Town provided drama a-plenty on Saturday, when Hythe Town were two goals up as we entered the last minute, and then, suddenly, three-two down before drawing level. Last night all the late goals went the way of the Kent side in a three-one win. Tom Walmsley gave them an early lead only for Field to equalise eleven minutes before the break, Kai Hamilton-Olise with that one- then with fifteen minutes remaining Noel Leighton made it two-one to the Cannons, and Frannie Collin made sure with the third right at the end.

Hythe will host Ascot United in the next round, Ashford Town will host Tilbury, South Park will travel to Broadfields United and Northwood will host Chichester City.
