New Gulls

By Ian Townsend

Lordon Akolbire and Philip Brown-Bampoe were new in the Canvey Island squad on Saturday

Canvey Island delivered the comeback of the day to win against Haringey Borough on Saturday, and they had two new names in the squad that came from two down to win three-two.

Lordon Akolbire, a defender, played the entire ninety minutes. He spent the last part of last season turning out for Pitching In Isthmian League champions Bishop's Stortford on loan from Colchester United, playing sis times, including in the two-two draw between the Blues and the Gulls on March 7th.

You may have also have noticed Lordon in our ranks during the 21-22 season, when he made thirty appearances on loan at- you guessed it- Maldon & Tiptree, scoring twice, both goals coming in wins over play off chasing rivals- coincidentally- Canvey Island and Brentwood Town.

Lordon turned out for the Under 21's at Colchester, signing his first professional deal at the start of last season.

Philip Brown-Bampoe was on the bench on Saturday. He was previously a Rock and a Rock, making seven appearances for East Thurrock United before signing for the other Rocks, Bognor Regis Town,. He moved to East Thurrock from Romford, and has also played for Barking, Redbridge and Greenwich Borough. He also spent time with Tilbury at the end of the 21-22 campaign.
