Leatherhead boss Nicki steps down- Martin McCarthy steps up

Leatherhead announced earlier today that boss Nicki Bull has stepped down from the role due to work and personal commitments.

In a statement on the club website, Nicki explained:

“Due to my current workload and personal commitments which have increased since the AGM, I am unable in the short term to attend all training and matches. Macca and I have worked tirelessly over the past three years and I don’t want to walk away from the club when we have so much left to do and achieve. I will continue to speak with Macca daily about football as we have always done and will be supporting Macca in all aspects of the job to ensure continuity for the football club. As a club, we acknowledge that recruiting players over the summer has not been easy and we are working tirelessly to bring in players, whilst at the same time ensuring that the club is not placed under any short or long-term financial strain. As a management team, we have always respected our surroundings and given our best to the supporters who have backed us brilliantly. I would ask that you all continue to give your full support and get behind Macca and the team. I will be fully supporting Macca with player recruitment.”

New boss McCarthy added:

"I was asked by the club and Nikki to step up and help at this difficult time and I’m pleased to do this. What makes the decision easier is that Nikki has agreed to continue to manage player recruitment and to support my education in this area. For me, joining the club was always about continuing my education and I’m happy to do what is necessary. It’s not going to be easy and we’ve had a very mixed pre-season. However, hopefully with new players arriving in the next weeks, and our focus on building up the young players in our squad, we can grow as we have done in the past few years. We’ve always delivered beyond our means and so I hope this will continue. It won’t be from a lack of hard work if it doesn’t.”
